To understand why I developed the Crystal Ball Technique, first I want to explain why most “How to become a copywriter” advice sucks.
The typical route most so-called experts recommend for becoming a copywriter looks something like this:
– Spend a bunch of time learning copywriting
– Spend a bunch of money getting some writing related degree
– Spend a bunch more time building up a portfolio by “writing what you know,” or just making stuff up out of thin air (please don’t do this)
– Beg random people to give you work, usually also offering a massive discount (or worse, doing work for free in hopes that one day they’ll pay)
– And finally, you’re given some vague advice on how to market yourself, usually through methods that are both painstakingly labor intensive, incredibly time consuming, and ineffective
THIS APPROACH IS ALL BACKWARDS BECAUSE…
– You end up studying and practicing copywriting for weeks or months without ever doing any real work, when you could have learned faster, better, and more profitably on the job instead
– You’ve wasted a ton of time and energy building up a portfolio that’s full of stuff clients don’t care about, and which you didn’t even need to begin with
– Worst of all, you end up with no clear cut path to finding and securing actual paying clients and real-world work

The first thing you need to do is make sure you truly love SEO, you wanna do it, and you wanna get good at it.
The second thing you need to do is set up a website. Go to wordpress.org or wordpress.com, set up your own website. It could be a blog, could be a blogging platform, it doesn’t matter. That’s just the first thing you need to do. Without your own website, you won’t know how to implement these tactics, practice, or get good at it.
The third thing you need to do is write content. When you have your website, if you don’t have content, you’re not gonna rank. As the saying goes, content is king. Publish content on whatever you’re passionate about.
The fourth thing is you need to build links. When it comes to building links, if no one’s linking to your website, you won’t rank.
Then, when you take those articles, you can put ’em into Ahrefs. It’ll show you all the people linking to ’em.
On top of links, you now need to then start getting social shares.
Then, I want you to follow all the popular marketing blogs, from Backlinko to Moz, to hey, even me, neilpatel.com. All of these marketing blogs will break out the latest and greatest tactics and techniques. By reading ’em on a regular basis, you’ll learn ’em, you’ll stay on top of the curve, so that way, you’ll do better than most people in the SEO industry.
And last but not least, be patient. You’re not gonna climb to the top of Google in a month, or even three months or six months. It takes longer and longer each and every single year because the web is more competitive. There’s roughly 1.7 or 1.8 billion websites on the Internet. That’s roughly four websites, technically one website for every four people. That’s a lot of websites, and blogs, there’s over a billion. That’s roughly one blog for every seven people. That’s too many sites to choose from. Because that Google now says, hey, there’s a lot of people talking about the same content over and over again, let’s pick the ones that are more up-to-date or more authority. It makes it that much harder for you to get rankings. For that reason, you need to learn to be patient. If you do this consistently for six months to a year, you’ll get results.

We start by going through the 6 PPC Ad Networks we love and the online advertising networks we would highly recommend testing in 2018. The pay-per-click networks are as follows:
1 – Google AdWords: https://adwords.google.com/home/
With Google AdWords, you can target keywords through their search network and target audiences, placements, and more through their display network and video network. Google AdWords is the largest PPC Advertising Network and you can reach the largest audience online through their channel. AdWords is how Google is able to make a lot of their money because they can deliver great results to advertisers.
For our example, we show a search ad where 4 different companies are bidding on a keyword. With Google AdWords, you can reach highly targeted customers when they are ready to buy from you. In addition, there are plenty of targeting options that can help you grow your audience and your business in addition to driving conversions and improve your Return on Investment (ROI).
Bing Ads allows you to target search keywords through the Microsoft, Bing, Yahoo, and AOL search engine properties. They have about a 30% market share so there is plenty of volume regardless of your niche or industry. In addition, you can import your Google AdWords campaigns directly into Bing Ads without any issues whatsoever. They have a lot of the same features, which make them great PPC Advertising Networks.

It can be a little expensive per click by LinkedIn is a great PPC Advertising channel to test for you.
Amazon Advertising is great for eCommerce and you can drive more traffic to your Amazon products or off the website to your own page. Amazon Advertising is a PPC Advertising Network that can work well for websites with great content.
